Our Ethos

Thurtene Holdings is more than just your usual commercial property landlord.

While there are certain legal precedents we need to meet in terms of lease documents, there is nothing more exciting than bringing a business dream to reality.

Founder Andrew Walsh is an entrepreneur who has grown a seed corn company from inception to 12 locations and sold to private equity. He is now both a landlord and a business mentor to start-up and growing businesses in Lincolnshire and beyond.

“Operating a new or expanding  company is tough,” said Andrew. “You not only need to know your trade and your customer but you need to understand accounts, legals, HR, health & safety, insurance obligations, funding & financing. I was often facing a tough institutional landlord and I told myself that one day I would be on the opposite side and be more understanding.

Thurtene Holdings is currently refurbishing The Old Barracks on Sandon Road, Grantham, a collection of buildings steeped in history.

“Starting up in business or expanding to new premises is very exciting but can also be fraught with hidden costs. At Thurtene Holdings we work with our tenants and prospective tenants to bring together their vision in a way that is cost effective for their business. And we are absolutely delighted to be remodernising space for up to five new businesses in the charismatic and historic space of Grantham’s Old Barracks. Whether that is an art gallery, salon, clinic, nursery, offices, dance school, martial arts club, coffee shop, restaurant or you own dream we are looking forward to helping you bring that to fruition and breath new life into this beautiful setting.

Thurtene Holdings is empathetic to its tenants and its buildings.

When the company took ownership of The Old Barracks one tenant had endured a leaking roof for more than two years.

“That kind of daily annoyance takes your focus off the business performance so we were quick to help them get this resolved,” said Andrew. “It seemed in the 1970s that skylights were added to the slate roof which was the cause of most of the leaking, along with gutters and drains blocked with years of overgrowth that was affecting all the properties.”

Thurtene Holdings is keen to ensure tenants benefit from sharing common costs to keep the surroundings consistent and inviting for everyone.

Wherever possible all externals (such as windows, gardens, lighting and security) are common costs so that the properties are kept in good order and consistent. Rather than the hefty commercial lease obligations the tenant can rest assured that a leaky roof, a blocked drain or a neighbour’s flaking window frames will be dealt with swiftly.
