From prisons to pop concerts – The Old Barracks, Grantham, has an almost unbelievable history!
And owners Thurtene Holdings are calling on the local community to share their memories for a Living History project.
Director Andrew Walsh explained: “A book has been published about the Barracks military use from its construction in 1858 and we are really interested to hear from people who have memories of using the building in the past 50 or so years.
“We know it was used by the college for teaching bricklaying and by the high school as a gymnasium at some points and as an auction room we’re really keen to find out more about its music history. We have a photograph of The Hollies performing here in 1966 but we’d love to see photos of the other huge stars reported to have Grantham on their tour list.”
The Who, The Small Faces, The Kinks, The Yardbirds, Gene Vincent, The Moody Blues, The Merseybeats and Billy J Kramer are named on www.setlist.fm but word of mouth also cites Tom Jones and Screaming Lord Sutch as crowd pullers.
